Live-in Care

Full-Time Support for a Couple With Complex Needs

Dorothy, 84, and Frank, 86, Wyre

The challenge

Dorothy has advanced arthritis and diabetes, while Frank has heart disease and memory problems.

What we provided

Horizons arranged live-in care with two experienced carers working regular rotations, ensuring continuity and proper rest days for quality of life.

The outcome

Dorothy and Frank remain in their own home and their relationship has not been disrupted.

The situation

Dorothy has advanced arthritis and diabetes, while Frank has heart disease and memory problems. They have been married sixty-two years and were determined to stay together at home, but neither could manage alone. Their son realised daytime visits were not enough and they needed someone present around the clock to manage medications, respond to emergencies, and provide personal care.

How we helped

Horizons arranged live-in care with two experienced carers working regular rotations, ensuring continuity and proper rest days for quality of life. The carers managed complex medication schedules, monitored Frank's heart condition, helped Dorothy with mobility and pain management, and provided daily companionship. We coordinated with their GP and district nurse to ensure holistic, joined-up care.

The outcome

Dorothy and Frank remain in their own home and their relationship has not been disrupted. They feel secure knowing help is always there, and their son reports significantly reduced anxiety. The carers have become part of their extended family, and both clients report being happier and healthier than before live-in care started.

We never thought we could stay together and stay at home. The carers have given us that gift, and they treat us with such dignity and kindness.
